The Purple Pig Tour!
September 26–October 9, 2010
A Prayer Journey through California Calling Young Adults to Plant Prayer Furnaces and Finish the Task of World Evangelization
In the 1970s, Dick Eastman, one of the great missionary statesmen and fathers of the prayer movement in our time, wrote a book called The Purple Pig and other Miracles. In it, he described a vision of a movement of young people who would forsake everything to follow Jesus, pursue love, pray unrelentingly, and finish the task of world evangelization.
When Lou Engle gave this book to me and his son, Jesse, at the launch of Luke18 Project at the beginning of 2008, he wrote a short note to us on the inside cover. It read:
Dear Brian and Jesse,
What I received from Dick Eastman, I give to you. Take this mantle. Be God’s firestarters.
I love you guys,
Lou Engle
January 2, 2008 (at the launch of Luke18 Project)
Though I never met Dick Eastman before reading The Purple Pig, when I read that book along with his book Jericho Hour, his vision for planting prayer furnaces and calling young people to radical missionary exploits became my own. Likewise, Lou has been a spiritual father and mentor in my life for many years now and his vision for prevailing prayer for justice, Nazirite consecration, and a new Student Volunteer Movement of missions and prayer is the foundational DNA of Luke18 Project.
When I read Lou’s note and Dick’s book, my heart became gripped with the possibilities of fulfilling the dreams of our fathers. The Holy Spirit began to speak to me that it was now time to call young adults to the vision that these two men have carried in their hearts for many years: a radical missions and prayer movement of young people who would finish the task of world evangelization and pray back the King.
In this decisive hour of Christian missions when missiologists are declaring the possibility of actually seeing the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy in Matthew 24:14 in the next decade—the gospel of the kingdom going forth to all nations before His second coming—this generation cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and miss the greatest missionary enterprise of all history. Let this generation, in these last days, consummate what our forefathers labored for in previous generations—the realization of the evangelization of the world in this generation.
To this end, in partnership with Lou Engle and TheCall, Luke18 Project is launching The Purple Pig Tour!, a three-week prayer journey that will be launched out of TheCall Sacramento on September 4, 2010. The team will travel throughout the state of California, calling young people to plant prayer furnaces in the hardest and darkest places of the earth and finish the task of world evangelization. We will host gatherings on college campuses and in local churches to rally a generation to prayer and the Great Commission.
A new generation of young adults is arising in this hour who are rejecting the status quo of the fading American dream for the privilege of giving their lives to missions and prayer. Their only motivation is for the Lamb who was slain to receive the reward of His suffering.
Come be a part of the movement!
Until He returns,
Brian Kim
Executive Director, Luke18 Project
